[Implantation of lid magnets in cases of paretic lagophthalmos (author's transl)]. 1980

W Schreinzer

Implantation of permanent magnets in the eye lids in cases of paretic lagophthalmos appears to be the best method of reconstructing natural lid closure. Besides the author's own experience with lid magnet implantation, general problems connected with this type of surgery are discussed.

D005158 Facial Paralysis Severe or complete loss of facial muscle motor function. This condition may result from central or peripheral lesions. Damage to CNS motor pathways from the cerebral cortex to the facial nuclei in the pons leads to facial weakness that generally spares the forehead muscles. FACIAL NERVE DISEASES generally results in generalized hemifacial weakness. NEUROMUSCULAR JUNCTION DISEASES and MUSCULAR DISEASES may also cause facial paralysis or paresis. D019736 Prostheses and Implants Artificial substitutes for body parts, and materials inserted into tissue for functional, cosmetic, or therapeutic purposes. Prostheses can be functional, as in the case of artificial arms and legs, or cosmetic, as in the case of an artificial eye. Implants, all surgically inserted or grafted into the body, tend to be used therapeutically. IMPLANTS, EXPERIMENTAL is available for those used experimentally.
