Absence of correlation between base-pair sequence and RNA conformation. 1981

S R Holbrook, and J L Sussman, and S H Kim

A survey of all available double-stranded RNA crystal structures shows that there is a considerable range of variation in local conformation of a given base-pair doublet, but that there is no significant correlation between base-pair sequence and RNA local conformation.

D012313 RNA A polynucleotide consisting essentially of chains with a repeating backbone of phosphate and ribose units to which nitrogenous bases are attached. RNA is unique among biological macromolecules in that it can encode genetic information, serve as an abundant structural component of cells, and also possesses catalytic activity. D012330 RNA, Double-Stranded RNA consisting of two strands as opposed to the more prevalent single-stranded RNA. Most of the double-stranded segments are formed from transcription of DNA by intramolecular base-pairing of inverted complementary sequences separated by a single-stranded loop. Some double-stranded segments of RNA are normal in all organisms. Double-Stranded RNA,Double Stranded RNA,RNA, Double Stranded
