'Routine' stains on osmicated resin embedded hepatic tissue. 1982

P Hall, and R D Smith, and B M Gormley

The recently described modification of the osmium tetroxide method for demonstrating lipid can be used on liver biopsies taken for diagnostic purposes. An unstained section is used for the quantitation of the lipid and sequential sections can be stained by all the 'routine' liver stains.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008055 Lipids A generic term for fats and lipoids, the alcohol-ether-soluble constituents of protoplasm, which are insoluble in water. They comprise the fats, fatty oils, essential oils, waxes, phospholipids, glycolipids, sulfolipids, aminolipids, chromolipids (lipochromes), and fatty acids. D008099 Liver A large lobed glandular organ in the abdomen of vertebrates that is responsible for detoxification, metabolism, synthesis and storage of various substances. Livers
D009993 Osmium Tetroxide (T-4)-Osmium oxide (OsO4). A highly toxic and volatile oxide of osmium used in industry as an oxidizing agent. It is also used as a histological fixative and stain and as a synovectomy agent in arthritic joints. Its vapor can cause eye, skin, and lung damage. Osmic Acid,Acid, Osmic,Tetroxide, Osmium
