The Rh antigen specificity of erythrocyte proteolipid. 1984

L T Sinor, and P J Brown, and J P Evans, and F V Plapp

A proteolipid was purified from erythrocytes by chloroform-methanol extraction and reconstituted into lipid micelles. This purified micellar proteolipid was used to demonstrate that different Rh antigens reside on the same protein molecule.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008565 Membrane Proteins Proteins which are found in membranes including cellular and intracellular membranes. They consist of two types, peripheral and integral proteins. They include most membrane-associated enzymes, antigenic proteins, transport proteins, and drug, hormone, and lectin receptors. D011510 Proteolipids Protein-lipid combinations abundant in brain tissue, but also present in a wide variety of animal and plant tissues. In contrast to lipoproteins, they are insoluble in water, but soluble in a chloroform-methanol mixture. The protein moiety has a high content of hydrophobic amino acids. The associated lipids consist of a mixture of GLYCEROPHOSPHATES; CEREBROSIDES; and SULFOGLYCOSPHINGOLIPIDS; while lipoproteins contain PHOSPHOLIPIDS; CHOLESTEROL; and TRIGLYCERIDES.
D004910 Erythrocyte Membrane The semi-permeable outer structure of a red blood cell. It is known as a red cell 'ghost' after HEMOLYSIS. D000937 Antigen-Antibody Reactions The processes triggered by interactions of ANTIBODIES with their ANTIGENS. Antigen Antibody Reactions,Antigen-Antibody Reaction,Reaction, Antigen-Antibody,Reactions, Antigen-Antibody
D000939 Epitopes Sites on an antigen that interact with specific antibodies. Antigenic Determinant,Antigenic Determinants,Antigenic Specificity,Epitope,Determinant, Antigenic,Determinants, Antigenic,Specificity, Antigenic
D012204 Rh-Hr Blood-Group System Erythrocyte isoantigens of the Rh (Rhesus) blood group system, the most complex of all human blood groups. The major antigen Rh or D is the most common cause of erythroblastosis fetalis.
