[Radiology disease of rare liver tumors (author's transl)]. 1980

S Bosnjakovic, and V Barth, and F Heuck

The past decade has shown an increase in the number of rare primary hepatic tumors, such as focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH), and hepatocellular adenoma and carcinoma. Some examples serve to demonstrate the value of scintigraphy, ultrasound, angiography and CT in the diagnosis of these lesions. Furthermore, the value of the radiographic finding for treatment and follow-up studies is pointed out--in conservative as well as surgical treatment.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D006965 Hyperplasia An increase in the number of cells in a tissue or organ without tumor formation. It differs from HYPERTROPHY, which is an increase in bulk without an increase in the number of cells. Hyperplasias
D008099 Liver A large lobed glandular organ in the abdomen of vertebrates that is responsible for detoxification, metabolism, synthesis and storage of various substances. Livers

D011877 Radionuclide Imaging The production of an image obtained by cameras that detect the radioactive emissions of an injected radionuclide as it has distributed differentially throughout tissues in the body. The image obtained from a moving detector is called a scan, while the image obtained from a stationary camera device is called a scintiphotograph. D006222 Hamartoma A focal malformation resembling a neoplasm, composed of an overgrowth of mature cells and tissues that normally occur in the affected area. Hamartomas
D006528 Carcinoma, Hepatocellular A primary malignant neoplasm of epithelial liver cells. It ranges from a well-differentiated tumor with EPITHELIAL CELLS indistinguishable from normal HEPATOCYTES to a poorly differentiated neoplasm. The cells may be uniform or markedly pleomorphic, or form GIANT CELLS. Several classification schemes have been suggested.
