Nuclear fluorescing particles (F-bodies) in lymphocytes in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. 1983

I M Lisse, and N H Holländer, and J L Thomsen

The number of fluorescing particles (F-bodies) in lymphocytes in 28 female and 45 male patients with CLL was compared to 63 (36 female, 27 male) controls, with and 25 (13 female, 12 male) without other haematological diseases. We found statistically highly significant increased F-body counts in the CLL groups. The present investigation indicates that the F-body feature described in specific for CLL-patients and may be a characteristic of the malignant clone of lymphocytes.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007945 Leukemia, Lymphoid Leukemia associated with HYPERPLASIA of the lymphoid tissues and increased numbers of circulating malignant LYMPHOCYTES and lymphoblasts. Leukemia, Lymphocytic,Lymphocytic Leukemia,Lymphoid Leukemia,Leukemias, Lymphocytic,Leukemias, Lymphoid,Lymphocytic Leukemias,Lymphoid Leukemias
D008214 Lymphocytes White blood cells formed in the body's lymphoid tissue. The nucleus is round or ovoid with coarse, irregularly clumped chromatin while the cytoplasm is typically pale blue with azurophilic (if any) granules. Most lymphocytes can be classified as either T or B (with subpopulations of each), or NATURAL KILLER CELLS. Lymphoid Cells,Cell, Lymphoid,Cells, Lymphoid,Lymphocyte,Lymphoid Cell
D008297 Male Males
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D002479 Inclusion Bodies A generic term for any circumscribed mass of foreign (e.g., lead or viruses) or metabolically inactive materials (e.g., ceroid or MALLORY BODIES), within the cytoplasm or nucleus of a cell. Inclusion bodies are in cells infected with certain filtrable viruses, observed especially in nerve, epithelial, or endothelial cells. D005260 Female Females
D005453 Fluorescence The property of emitting radiation while being irradiated. The radiation emitted is usually of longer wavelength than that incident or absorbed, e.g., a substance can be irradiated with invisible radiation and emit visible light. X-ray fluorescence is used in diagnosis.
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000368 Aged A person 65 years of age or older. For a person older than 79 years, AGED, 80 AND OVER is available. Elderly
D012730 Sex Chromosomes The homologous chromosomes that are dissimilar in the heterogametic sex. There are the X CHROMOSOME, the Y CHROMOSOME, and the W, Z chromosomes (in animals in which the female is the heterogametic sex (the silkworm moth Bombyx mori, for example)). In such cases the W chromosome is the female-determining and the male is ZZ.
