[Flavellagic acid influence on blood coagulation and hemostasis disturbed by whole body irradiation]. 1983

J Pospísil, and E Skala, and M Zitko, and Z Dienstbier

By experimentations in vitro with human blood, we found out that an addition of flavellagic acid influences the initial stage of the coagulation system by activating the XIIth coagulation factor. So there is another substance besides the ellagic acid that activates in solution the XIIth coagulation factor. Our experimentations on sound rats showed that an intravenous administration of flavellagic acid in a dose of 0.7 mg/kg body weight has a short-term hemostatic action and that the r and k values and the m epsilon value in the thrombelastogram are increased. There was a similar effect in rats receiving an intravenous injection of flavellagic acid on the twelfth day after a whole-body irradiation with 8.0 Gy.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D001777 Blood Coagulation The process of the interaction of BLOOD COAGULATION FACTORS that results in an insoluble FIBRIN clot. Blood Clotting,Coagulation, Blood,Blood Clottings,Clotting, Blood
D004610 Ellagic Acid A fused four ring compound occurring free or combined in galls. Isolated from the kino of Eucalyptus maculata Hook and E. Hemipholia F. Muell. Activates Factor XII of the blood clotting system which also causes kinin release; used in research and as a dye. Benzoaric Acid,Acid, Benzoaric,Acid, Ellagic
D005174 Factor XII Stable blood coagulation factor activated by contact with the subendothelial surface of an injured vessel. Along with prekallikrein, it serves as the contact factor that initiates the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation. Kallikrein activates factor XII to XIIa. Deficiency of factor XII, also called the Hageman trait, leads to increased incidence of thromboembolic disease. Mutations in the gene for factor XII that appear to increase factor XII amidolytic activity are associated with HEREDITARY ANGIOEDEMA TYPE III. Coagulation Factor XII,Hageman Factor,Factor 12,Factor Twelve
D006487 Hemostasis The process which spontaneously arrests the flow of BLOOD from vessels carrying blood under pressure. It is accomplished by contraction of the vessels, adhesion and aggregation of formed blood elements (eg. ERYTHROCYTE AGGREGATION), and the process of BLOOD COAGULATION. Hemostases
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. Animal,Metazoa,Animalia
D001578 Benzopyrans Compounds with a core of fused benzo-pyran rings. Benzopyran,Chromene,Chromenes
D013916 Thrombelastography Use of a thrombelastograph, which provides a continuous graphic record of the physical shape of a clot during fibrin formation and subsequent lysis. Thromboelastography,Thromboelastometry
D014916 Whole-Body Irradiation Irradiation of the whole body with ionizing or non-ionizing radiation. It is applicable to humans or animals but not to microorganisms. Radiation, Whole-Body,Total Body Irradiation,Irradiation, Total Body,Irradiation, Whole-Body,Whole-Body Radiation,Irradiation, Whole Body,Irradiations, Total Body,Irradiations, Whole-Body,Radiation, Whole Body,Radiations, Whole-Body,Total Body Irradiations,Whole Body Irradiation,Whole Body Radiation,Whole-Body Irradiations,Whole-Body Radiations
