Biosynthesis and regulation of the peroxisomal methanol oxidase from the methylotrophic yeast Hansenula polymorpha. 1984

The biosynthesis of methanol oxidase, a peroxisomal enzyme in the methanol-utilizing yeast Hansenula polymorpha, was studied in vitro. Translation of Hansenula mRNA in a rabbit reticulocyte lysate yields methanol oxidase protein in high amounts. The apparent molecular mass of the protein was found to be identical to the subunit of the functional multimeric enzyme, which indicates the absence of an N-terminal extension typical of most transported proteins. The regulation of methanol oxidase by glucose repression and depression as well as by induction of methanol was shown to be controlled at the level of transcription. Two mutants of Hansenula polymorpha, unable to grow on methanol as a carbon and energy source were shown to be affected in methanol oxidase synthesis.

D001203 Ascomycota A phylum of fungi which have cross-walls or septa in the mycelium. The perfect state is characterized by the formation of a saclike cell (ascus) containing ascospores. Most pathogenic fungi with a known perfect state belong to this phylum. Ascomycetes,Cochliobolus,Sclerotinia,Ascomycete,Ascomycotas,Sclerotinias
D012331 RNA, Fungal Ribonucleic acid in fungi having regulatory and catalytic roles as well as involvement in protein synthesis. Fungal RNA
D012333 RNA, Messenger RNA sequences that serve as templates for protein synthesis. Bacterial mRNAs are generally primary transcripts in that they do not require post-transcriptional processing. Eukaryotic mRNA is synthesized in the nucleus and must be exported to the cytoplasm for translation. Most eukaryotic mRNAs have a sequence of polyadenylic acid at the 3' end, referred to as the poly(A) tail. The function of this tail is not known for certain, but it may play a role in the export of mature mRNA from the nucleus as well as in helping stabilize some mRNA molecules by retarding their degradation in the cytoplasm.
