[The surgical treatment of large eventrations using skin homografts preserved in cialit]. 1984

S Schneider

52 persons who had been operated upon for large eventration by means of Cialit dermatoplasty were re-examined after an interval of 2 to 12 years. After a description of the operating technique, the immediate and then the long-term results are analysed. The quantity of mercury in the blood and the urine of 7 patients never shows an increase that reaches the critical threshold. The figures obtained go down to reference values found in the case of non-exposed persons after 9 months in the blood and 4 months in the urine. A fresh intervention in the case of 3 patients has permitted a histological examination of the cicatrix after Cialit skin transplantation. Analysis confirms the excellent tolerance of the material and its integration with the tissues of the recipient. The interest of this technique in an infected environment is to be emphasized.

D008628 Mercury A silver metallic element that exists as a liquid at room temperature. It has the atomic symbol Hg (from hydrargyrum, liquid silver), atomic number 80, and atomic weight 200.59. Mercury is used in many industrial applications and its salts have been employed therapeutically as purgatives, antisyphilitics, disinfectants, and astringents. It can be absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes which leads to MERCURY POISONING. Because of its toxicity, the clinical use of mercury and mercurials is diminishing.
