Recording and evaluation of isotonic and isometric contractions of skeletal muscle in situ. 1980

Z Wünsch, and P Hník

A procedure is described for obtaining records and identifying curves of isotonic and isometric contractions (both tetanic and twitch) of the gastrocnemius muscle of the rabbit in situ. The experimental conditions have made it possible to follow the above mentioned phenomena and to measure further parameters in series at sequentially altered muscle lengths and loads acting in the course of isotonic contractions.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009119 Muscle Contraction A process leading to shortening and/or development of tension in muscle tissue. Muscle contraction occurs by a sliding filament mechanism whereby actin filaments slide inward among the myosin filaments. D010827 Physiology The biological science concerned with the life-supporting properties, functions, and processes of living organisms or their parts.
D011817 Rabbits A burrowing plant-eating mammal with hind limbs that are longer than its fore limbs. It belongs to the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha, and in contrast to hares, possesses 22 instead of 24 pairs of chromosomes. D006614 Hindlimb Either of two extremities of four-footed non-primate land animals. It usually consists of a FEMUR; TIBIA; and FIBULA; tarsals; METATARSALS; and TOES. (From Storer et al., General Zoology, 6th ed, p73) Hindlimbs
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
