Localisation of immunoglobulin (IgG) in granulated metrial gland cells of deciduomata of the pseudopregnant rat. 1981

B S Mitchell, and R I Craggs, and S Peel

Using an immunoperoxidase technique, after fixation in saturated alcoholic mercuric chloride, it was possible to detect cytoplasmic immunoglobulin (IgG) in granulated metrial gland cells from deciduomata of pseudopregnancy in the rat. The extent of the reaction for IgG was variable but did not appear to be related to the day of pseudopregnancy or to the extent of the decidual reaction. Examination of single cell suspension enabled quantification of IgG-containing cells, but no significant differences were detected in the numbers of positive cells at the days of pseudopregnancy which were examined. Surface IgG was detected on a small proportion of the cells, and they were distinguished from the Fcgamma receptor-bearing cells in the metrial gland of deciduomata of pseudopregnancy.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007074 Immunoglobulin G The major immunoglobulin isotype class in normal human serum. There are several isotype subclasses of IgG, for example, IgG1, IgG2A, and IgG2B. D008627 Mercuric Chloride Mercury chloride (HgCl2). A highly toxic compound that volatizes slightly at ordinary temperature and appreciably at 100 degrees C. It is corrosive to mucous membranes and used as a topical antiseptic and disinfectant. D008628 Mercury A silver metallic element that exists as a liquid at room temperature. It has the atomic symbol Hg (from hydrargyrum, liquid silver), atomic number 80, and atomic weight 200.59. Mercury is used in many industrial applications and its salts have been employed therapeutically as purgatives, antisyphilitics, disinfectants, and astringents. It can be absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes which leads to MERCURY POISONING. Because of its toxicity, the clinical use of mercury and mercurials is diminishing.
D008791 Metrial Gland Collection of granular epithelial cells in the uterine muscle beneath the placenta that develop during pregnancy in certain species of animals. Gland, Metrial,Glands, Metrial,Metrial Glands
D011555 Pseudopregnancy An acyclic state that resembles PREGNANCY in that there is no ovarian cycle, ESTROUS CYCLE, or MENSTRUAL CYCLE. Unlike pregnancy, there is no EMBRYO IMPLANTATION. Pseudopregnancy can be experimentally induced to form DECIDUOMA in the UTERUS. Pseudocyesis,Pseudopregnancies
D011817 Rabbits A burrowing plant-eating mammal with hind limbs that are longer than its fore limbs. It belongs to the family Leporidae of the order Lagomorpha, and in contrast to hares, possesses 22 instead of 24 pairs of chromosomes. D011919 Rats, Inbred Strains Genetically identical individuals developed from brother and sister matings which have been carried out for twenty or more generations or by parent x offspring matings carried out with certain restrictions. This also includes animals with a long history of closed colony breeding. D003656 Decidua The hormone-responsive glandular layer of ENDOMETRIUM that sloughs off at each menstrual flow (decidua menstrualis) or at the termination of pregnancy. During pregnancy, the thickest part of the decidua forms the maternal portion of the PLACENTA, thus named decidua placentalis. The thin portion of the decidua covering the rest of the embryo is the decidua capsularis. Deciduum,Deciduas
D005260 Female Females
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
