Verapamil as maintenance treatment in bipolar illness: a case report. 1984

M J Gitlin, and J Weiss

The authors report the successful maintenance treatment of a bipolar woman with verapamil. Whereas the patient had previously demonstrated multiple antidepressant-induced manias despite prophylactic lithium treatment, she was able to maintain on verapamil plus trazodone without manic or depressive episodes over a 1-year period. It is suggested that verapamil may have a place in the maintenance treatment of bipolar patients.
