[Artificial mesh as an aid in abdominal wall closure in postoperative peritonitis, postoperative abdominal wall dehiscence and reconstruction of the abdominal wall]. 1984

E Gross, and J Erhard, and F W Eigler

Plastic mesh was utilized for repairing abdominal wall defects and postoperative wound dehiscence. In case of postoperative peritonitis the insertion of mesh without closing the skin provides a decrease of intra-abdominal pressure and an effective drainage of the abdominal cavity. The use of mesh in 27 patients shows the advantage of an absorbable mesh compared with a non-absorbable one.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D010538 Peritonitis INFLAMMATION of the PERITONEUM lining the ABDOMINAL CAVITY as the result of infectious, autoimmune, or chemical processes. Primary peritonitis is due to infection of the PERITONEAL CAVITY via hematogenous or lymphatic spread and without intra-abdominal source. Secondary peritonitis arises from the ABDOMINAL CAVITY itself through RUPTURE or ABSCESS of intra-abdominal organs. D011092 Polyethylene Glycols Polymers of ETHYLENE OXIDE and water, and their ethers. They vary in consistency from liquid to solid depending on the molecular weight indicated by a number following the name. They are used as SURFACTANTS, dispersing agents, solvents, ointment and suppository bases, vehicles, and tablet excipients. Some specific groups are NONOXYNOLS, OCTOXYNOLS, and POLOXAMERS.
