Comparison of Bennett shift measured at the hinge axis and an arbitrary hinge axis position. 1984

T F Lundeen, and F Mendoza

Bennett shift was measured at an arbitrary hinge axis position and at the hinge axis position in 10 subjects. Sixty percent of the arbitrary hinge axis positions were within 5 mm of the hinge axis position. There was no significant difference in the Bennett shift measurements made at the hinge axis and the arbitrary hinge axis positions when measured in 0.25 mm increments. The average immediate Bennett shift was found to be 1.05 mm on the left side and 1.12 mm on the right side when firm guidance was used.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008335 Mandibular Condyle The posterior process on the ramus of the mandible composed of two parts: a superior part, the articular portion, and an inferior part, the condylar neck. Condyle, Mandibular,Condyles, Mandibular,Mandibular Condyles
D009068 Movement The act, process, or result of passing from one place or position to another. It differs from LOCOMOTION in that locomotion is restricted to the passing of the whole body from one place to another, while movement encompasses both locomotion but also a change of the position of the whole body or any of its parts. Movement may be used with reference to humans, vertebrate and invertebrate animals, and microorganisms. Differentiate also from MOTOR ACTIVITY, movement associated with behavior. Movements
D003725 Dental Articulators Mechanical devices that simulate the temporomandibular joints and jaws to which maxillary and mandibular casts are attached. The entire assembly attempts to reproduce the movements of the mandible and the various tooth-to-tooth relationships that accompany those movements.
