The Doppler ultrasound is a proper method to diagnose pathologic venous flow in the pelvic and and femoral regions. It is possible to differentiate deep vein thrombosis and chronic venous insufficiency of the typical kind of disturbance. This method permits only functional but not morphological findings; it offers the chance of preselection to other invasive methods.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007866 Leg The inferior part of the lower extremity between the KNEE and the ANKLE. Legs
D004301 Doppler Effect Changes in the observed frequency of waves (as sound, light, or radio waves) due to the relative motion of source and observer. The effect was named for the 19th century Austrian physicist Johann Christian Doppler. Doppler Shift,Effect, Doppler,Shift, Doppler
D005268 Femoral Vein The vein accompanying the femoral artery in the same sheath; it is a continuation of the popliteal vein and becomes the external iliac vein. Femoral Veins,Vein, Femoral,Veins, Femoral

D013924 Thrombophlebitis Inflammation of a vein associated with a blood clot (THROMBUS). Phlegmasia Alba Dolens,Dolens, Phlegmasia Alba,Thrombophlebitides
D014463 Ultrasonography The visualization of deep structures of the body by recording the reflections or echoes of ultrasonic pulses directed into the tissues. Use of ultrasound for imaging or diagnostic purposes employs frequencies ranging from 1.6 to 10 megahertz. D014689 Venous Insufficiency Impaired venous blood flow or venous return (venous stasis), usually caused by inadequate venous valves. Venous insufficiency often occurs in the legs, and is associated with EDEMA and sometimes with VENOUS STASIS ULCERS at the ankle. Insufficiencies, Venous,Insufficiency, Venous,Venous Insufficiencies
