Is uveitis associated with ankylosing spondylitis or with HLA-B27? 1983

S van der Linden, and H A Valkenburg, and A Cats

Acute anterior uveitis (AAU) is more often seen in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients with severe disease than in HLA-B27 positive relatives with or without sacroiliitis. Possibly the prevalence of AAU is associated with the severity of AS.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D006680 HLA Antigens Antigens determined by leukocyte loci found on chromosome 6, the major histocompatibility loci in humans. They are polypeptides or glycoproteins found on most nucleated cells and platelets, determine tissue types for transplantation, and are associated with certain diseases. D013167 Spondylitis, Ankylosing A chronic inflammatory condition affecting the axial joints, such as the SACROILIAC JOINT and other intervertebral or costovertebral joints. It occurs predominantly in young males and is characterized by pain and stiffness of joints (ANKYLOSIS) with inflammation at tendon insertions. D014606 Uveitis, Anterior Inflammation of the anterior uvea comprising the iris, angle structures, and the ciliary body. Manifestations of this disorder include ciliary injection, exudation into the anterior chamber, iris changes, and adhesions between the iris and lens (posterior synechiae). Intraocular pressure may be increased or reduced. Anterior Uveitides,Anterior Uveitis,Uveitides, Anterior
D015796 HLA-B27 Antigen A specific HLA-B surface antigen subtype. Members of this subtype contain alpha chains that are encoded by the HLA-B*27 allele family.
