Effect of dietary propionic and lactic acids on feed intake by chicks. 1984

Two organic acids were evaluated for their potential to regulate feed intake of chicks by dietary means. When propionic acid was included in the feed up to levels of 100 g/kg, from 0 to 28 days, voluntary feed intake of chicks was decreased with increasing dietary levels of acid. Propionic acid had a greater effect per unit weight when included in drinking water as compared with inclusion in feed. Lactic acid, up to 30 g/kg, did not significantly reduce feed intake.
