[Various results of nonsurgical embryo transfer in lactating cattle under field conditions in the Netherlands]. 1984

H Hoogenkamp

Superovulation was induced in 129 lactating donor cows for embryo transfer under field conditions. Twenty-nine animals (22.5 per cent) responded with fewer than three corpora lutea. The number of animals flushed was ninety-nine, averaging 8.2 corpora lutea per donor cow. The average proportion of recoveries was 56.4 per cent. The quality of the embryos was satisfactory in 64 per cent of the cases. The average number of embryos and egg cells per donor was 4.6, which resulted in 2.9 good quality embryos per donor. The percentage of pregnant recipients was 56 in good quality embryos and 9 for fair quality embryos.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007774 Lactation The processes of milk secretion by the maternal MAMMARY GLANDS after PARTURITION. The proliferation of the mammary glandular tissue, milk synthesis, and milk expulsion or let down are regulated by the interactions of several hormones including ESTRADIOL; PROGESTERONE; PROLACTIN; and OXYTOCIN. D004624 Embryo Transfer The transfer of mammalian embryos from an in vivo or in vitro environment to a suitable host to improve pregnancy or gestational outcome in human or animal. In human fertility treatment programs, preimplantation embryos ranging from the 4-cell stage to the blastocyst stage are transferred to the uterine cavity between 3-5 days after FERTILIZATION IN VITRO. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D013480 Superovulation Occurrence or induction of release of more ova than are normally released at the same time in a given species. The term applies to both animals and humans. Superovulations
