[Mechanism of the piezoelectric polarization of collagen]. 1984

V F Chepel', and V V Lavrent'ev

Dipole structure and mobility of dipoles in helical regions of collagen macromolecules were analysed. The mechanism of shearstressed piezoelectric polarization was proposed. On the proposed model quantitative calculations were carried out; the obtained value of coefficient e14 for oriented artificial collagen film comes to an agreement with experimental meaning.

D004560 Electricity The physical effects involving the presence of electric charges at rest and in motion.
D046911 Macromolecular Substances Compounds and molecular complexes that consist of very large numbers of atoms and are generally over 500 kDa in size. In biological systems macromolecular substances usually can be visualized using ELECTRON MICROSCOPY and are distinguished from ORGANELLES by the lack of a membrane structure.
