Defective imino acid metabolism in hypoglycin-treated rats. 1984

S I Goodman, and D Valle

Oral administration of hypoglycin (5-6 mg/100 g body wt) to weanling rats produces, in addition to the well-recognized organic aciduria, pronounced iminoacidemia, hyperiminoacidura, and decreased activity of proline and hydroxyproline oxidases.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007005 Hypoglycins Methylene cyclopropyl alanine and congeners isolated from the unripe edible fruit of the AKEE plant (BLIGHIA SAPIDA). Hypoglycin B is the gamma-glutamyl congener of hypoglycin A. They are very toxic and teratogenic, causing a syndrome called Jamaican vomiting sickness that includes a fall in blood glucose due to the interference of FATTY ACIDS and LEUCINE metabolism which leads to VOMITING, liver damage, CONVULSIONS and DEATH.
D007098 Imino Acids Carboxylic acids that contain an imino group (C Amino Acids, Secondary,Acids, Secondary Amino,Secondary Amino Acids,Acids, Imino
D011394 Proline Oxidase The first enzyme of the proline degradative pathway. It catalyzes the oxidation of proline to pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid in the presence of oxygen and water. The action is not reversible. The specific activity of proline oxidase increases with age. EC 1.5.3.-. Proline Dehydrogenase,Dehydrogenase, Proline,Oxidase, Proline
D003521 Cyclopropanes Three-carbon cycloparaffin cyclopropane (the structural formula (CH2)3) and its derivatives.
D000587 Oxidoreductases Acting on CH-NH Group Donors Enzymes catalyzing the dehydrogenation of secondary amines, introducing a C Secondary Amine Oxidoreductases,Amine Oxidoreductases, Secondary Amine,Amine Oxidoreductases, Secondary,Oxidoreductases Acting on CH NH Group Donors,Oxidoreductases, Secondary Amine
D000596 Amino Acids Organic compounds that generally contain an amino (-NH2) and a carboxyl (-COOH) group. Twenty alpha-amino acids are the subunits which are polymerized to form proteins. Amino Acid,Acid, Amino,Acids, Amino
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
