Detection of H-Y antigen by fluorescence microscopy. 1978

G M Galbraith, and R M Galbraith, and W P Faulk, and S S Wachtel

A rapid and reproducible fluorescence microscopic technique has been devised to demonstrate H-Y antigen on membranes of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. In 11 male subjects, 20 to 32% of mononuclear cells were positive for H-Y antigen, whereas less than 1% of such cells from 6 female donors were seen to be stained.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D008856 Microscopy, Fluorescence Microscopy of specimens stained with fluorescent dye (usually fluorescein isothiocyanate) or of naturally fluorescent materials, which emit light when exposed to ultraviolet or blue light. Immunofluorescence microscopy utilizes antibodies that are labeled with fluorescent dye. D003429 Cross Reactions Serological reactions in which an antiserum against one antigen reacts with a non-identical but closely related antigen. Cross Reaction,Reaction, Cross,Reactions, Cross
D005260 Female Females
D006084 Graft Rejection An immune response with both cellular and humoral components, directed against an allogeneic transplant, whose tissue antigens are not compatible with those of the recipient. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D000941 Antigens Substances that are recognized by the immune system and induce an immune reaction. Antigen
D012730 Sex Chromosomes The homologous chromosomes that are dissimilar in the heterogametic sex. There are the X CHROMOSOME, the Y CHROMOSOME, and the W, Z chromosomes (in animals in which the female is the heterogametic sex (the silkworm moth Bombyx mori, for example)). In such cases the W chromosome is the female-determining and the male is ZZ. D014998 Y Chromosome The male sex chromosome, being the differential sex chromosome carried by half the male gametes and none of the female gametes in humans and in some other male-heterogametic species in which the homologue of the X chromosome has been retained. Chromosome, Y,Chromosomes, Y,Y Chromosomes
