Increase of collagen synthesis in pulmonary arteries of monocrotaline-treated rats. 1980

R Kameji, and H Otsuka, and Y Hayashi

Collagen synthesis in the pulmonary artery in animals with pulmonary hypertension was studied using monocrotaline-treated rats as a model. Incorporation of 14C-lateled proline into collagenase-digestible protein in the pulmonary artery was found to be 4-5 times higher in monocrotaline-treated rats than in control rats.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries

D011651 Pulmonary Artery The short wide vessel arising from the conus arteriosus of the right ventricle and conveying unaerated blood to the lungs. Arteries, Pulmonary,Artery, Pulmonary,Pulmonary Arteries
D011763 Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids A group of ALKALOIDS, characterized by a nitrogen-containing necine, occurring mainly in plants of the BORAGINACEAE; COMPOSITAE; and LEGUMINOSAE plant families. They can be activated in the liver by hydrolysis of the ester and desaturation of the necine base to reactive electrophilic pyrrolic CYTOTOXINS. D003094 Collagen A polypeptide substance comprising about one third of the total protein in mammalian organisms. It is the main constituent of SKIN; CONNECTIVE TISSUE; and the organic substance of bones (BONE AND BONES) and teeth (TOOTH). D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. Animal,Metazoa,Animalia
D001011 Aorta The main trunk of the systemic arteries. Aortas
D016686 Monocrotaline A pyrrolizidine alkaloid and a toxic plant constituent that poisons livestock and humans through the ingestion of contaminated grains and other foods. The alkaloid causes pulmonary artery hypertension, right ventricular hypertrophy, and pathological changes in the pulmonary vasculature. Significant attenuation of the cardiopulmonary changes are noted after oral magnesium treatment. Monocrotaline Hydrochloride (13alpha,14alpha)-Isomer,Monocrotaline, (all-xi)-Isomer
