[Raynaud's phenomenon. A literature review of recent aspects (author's transl)]. 1981

E Ernst

A large number of etiologies are hidden in the Raynaud Phenomenon, yet the clinical picture is quite uniform and shows particularly graded differences. Our knowledge of the underlying pathophysiological mechanism is incomplete. Neural, local, humoral and central nervous factors seem to play a role. A better understanding of these principles and their interplay is an essential condition for effective therapy. The present work attempts to summarize the results of recent research into the pathophysiology of the process and to relate them with modern forms of treatment which try to find a causal approach.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D011928 Raynaud Disease An idiopathic vascular disorder characterized by bilateral Raynaud phenomenon, the abrupt onset of digital paleness or CYANOSIS in response to cold exposure or stress. Cold Fingers, Hereditary,Raynaud Phenomenon,Raynaud's Disease,Raynauds Disease
D001809 Blood Viscosity The internal resistance of the BLOOD to shear forces. The in vitro measure of whole blood viscosity is of limited clinical utility because it bears little relationship to the actual viscosity within the circulation, but an increase in the viscosity of circulating blood can contribute to morbidity in patients suffering from disorders such as SICKLE CELL ANEMIA and POLYCYTHEMIA. Blood Viscosities,Viscosities, Blood,Viscosity, Blood
D005260 Female Females
D005385 Fingers Four or five slender jointed digits in humans and primates, attached to each HAND. Finger
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
D013564 Sympathetic Nervous System The thoracolumbar division of the autonomic nervous system. Sympathetic preganglionic fibers originate in neurons of the intermediolateral column of the spinal cord and project to the paravertebral and prevertebral ganglia, which in turn project to target organs. The sympathetic nervous system mediates the body's response to stressful situations, i.e., the fight or flight reactions. It often acts reciprocally to the parasympathetic system. Nervous System, Sympathetic,Nervous Systems, Sympathetic,Sympathetic Nervous Systems,System, Sympathetic Nervous,Systems, Sympathetic Nervous
D014661 Vasoconstriction The physiological narrowing of BLOOD VESSELS by contraction of the VASCULAR SMOOTH MUSCLE. Vasoconstrictions
