Long-term variation (21-30 days) in the gonadotropic hormones level and testosterone was followed up in Klinefelter's syndrome (chromatine positive). Clinically, the authors followed up the development of the androgen-dependent target tissues before and after administration of 400 mg testosterone/month for 6 months. It was also found a fluctuation in the gonadotropic hormones secretion on a 21-30-day trial which differs from that of the normal adult male. We noticed a great variability of the androgen-dependent structures development in one and the same subject or in different subjects, and a low response to the action of big and prolonged doses of testosterone. The authors interpret these findings as a decrease in the sensitivity of the androgen-dependent target structures (hypothalamus and peripheral tissues) induced genetically and fundamenting the concept of the existence of a receptivity pathology.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007713 Klinefelter Syndrome A form of male HYPOGONADISM, characterized by the presence of an extra X CHROMOSOME, small TESTES, seminiferous tubule dysgenesis, elevated levels of GONADOTROPINS, low serum TESTOSTERONE, underdeveloped secondary sex characteristics, and male infertility (INFERTILITY, MALE). Patients tend to have long legs and a slim, tall stature. GYNECOMASTIA is present in many of the patients. The classic form has the karyotype 47,XXY. Several karyotype variants include 48,XXYY; 48,XXXY; 49,XXXXY, and mosaic patterns ( 46,XY/47,XXY; 47,XXY/48,XXXY, etc.). 48,XXYY Syndrome,49,XXXXY Syndrome,Klinefelter Syndrome, Variants,Klinefelter's Syndrome,XXXY Males,XXY Syndrome,XXY Trisomy,Xxyy Syndrome,Klinefelter Syndromes,Klinefelter Syndromes, Variants,Klinefelters Syndrome,Syndrome, Klinefelter,Syndrome, Klinefelter's,Syndrome, Variants Klinefelter,Syndrome, XXY,Syndrome, Xxyy,Syndromes, Klinefelter,Syndromes, Variants Klinefelter,Syndromes, XXY,Syndromes, Xxyy,Trisomies, XXY,Trisomy, XXY,XXXY Male,XXY Syndromes,XXY Trisomies,Xxyy Syndromes

D011944 Receptors, Androgen Proteins, generally found in the CYTOPLASM, that specifically bind ANDROGENS and mediate their cellular actions. The complex of the androgen and receptor migrates to the CELL NUCLEUS where it induces transcription of specific segments of DNA. D006059 Gonadal Dysgenesis A number of syndromes with defective gonadal developments such as streak GONADS and dysgenetic testes or ovaries. The spectrum of gonadal and sexual abnormalities is reflected in their varied sex chromosome (SEX CHROMOSOMES) constitution as shown by the karyotypes of 45,X monosomy (TURNER SYNDROME); 46,XX (GONADAL DYSGENESIS, 46XX); 46,XY (GONADAL DYSGENESIS, 46,XY); and sex chromosome MOSAICISM; (GONADAL DYSGENESIS, MIXED). Their phenotypes range from female, through ambiguous, to male. This concept includes gonadal agenesis. Gonadal Agenesis,Dysgenesis, Gonadal
D006062 Gonadotropins Hormones that stimulate gonadal functions such as GAMETOGENESIS and sex steroid hormone production in the OVARY and the TESTIS. Major gonadotropins are glycoproteins produced primarily by the adenohypophysis (GONADOTROPINS, PITUITARY) and the placenta (CHORIONIC GONADOTROPIN). In some species, pituitary PROLACTIN and PLACENTAL LACTOGEN exert some luteotropic activities. Gonadotropin
D006065 Gonadotropins, Pituitary Hormones secreted by the adenohypophysis (PITUITARY GLAND, ANTERIOR) that stimulate gonadal functions in both males and females. They include FOLLICLE STIMULATING HORMONE that stimulates germ cell maturation (OOGENESIS; SPERMATOGENESIS), and LUTEINIZING HORMONE that stimulates the production of sex steroids (ESTROGENS; PROGESTERONE; ANDROGENS). Pituitary Gonadotropins

D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
