Post-heparin plasma lipolytic activity in acute hepatitis. 1978

M J Treffot, and A Monges, and M Gabrielli, and J Boyer

Post-heparin plasma lipolytic activity (PHLA) was measured in 21 patients with acute viral hepatitis. PHLA was significantly reduced in all patients (p less than 0.0005), whose mean activity was only 32% of the control subjects. An inverse correlation (p less than 0.05) was found between PHLA values and serum triglycerides levels. During recovery, the normalization of PHLA was much slower than that of the usual tests of liver function. PHLA measurement may represent a new and sensitive test of liver function.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008049 Lipase An enzyme of the hydrolase class that catalyzes the reaction of triacylglycerol and water to yield diacylglycerol and a fatty acid anion. It is produced by glands on the tongue and by the pancreas and initiates the digestion of dietary fats. (From Dorland, 27th ed) EC 3.1.1.3. D006493 Heparin A highly acidic mucopolysaccharide formed of equal parts of sulfated D-glucosamine and D-glucuronic acid with sulfaminic bridges. The molecular weight ranges from six to twenty thousand. Heparin occurs in and is obtained from liver, lung, mast cells, etc., of vertebrates. Its function is unknown, but it is used to prevent blood clotting in vivo and vitro, in the form of many different salts.
