Regeneration of Reissner's membrane. 1983

M Lawrence

Repair of Reissner's membrane following rupture by an excess of endolymph (humans) or by loud sounds (animals) has been reported, but little is known about the process itself. In this study the repair has been examined in a series of guinea pigs by conventional histology and light microscopy. The spiral limbus appears to be involved in normal maintenance of the membrane and the suprastrial area of spiral ligament seems to dominate the process of repair.

D003051 Cochlea The part of the inner ear (LABYRINTH) that is concerned with hearing. It forms the anterior part of the labyrinth, as a snail-like structure that is situated almost horizontally anterior to the VESTIBULAR LABYRINTH. Cochleas
D003053 Cochlear Duct A spiral tube that is firmly suspended in the bony shell-shaped part of the cochlea. This ENDOLYMPH-filled cochlear duct begins at the vestibule and makes 2.5 turns around a core of spongy bone (the modiolus) thus dividing the PERILYMPH-filled spiral canal into two channels, the SCALA VESTIBULI and the SCALA TYMPANI. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
