[Clinical aspects of the radioimmunoassay of carcinoembryonic antigen levels in breast cancer]. 1983

The paper is concerned with the results of radioimmunoassay of the CEA level in the blood serum of 235 patients with breast cancer, 48 patients with fibrous-cystic mastopathies and 51 healthy women. In 100 patients with generalized breast cancer repeated examination of the CEA level was done during drug treatment. The authors showed a possibility to use in practice the results of radioimmunoassay of CEA in patients with breast cancer in early stages as a prognostic test as well as an additional criterion in the evaluation of drug therapeutic efficacy in patients with generalized breast cancer.

D009376 Neoplasms, Hormone-Dependent Certain tumors that 1, arise in organs that are normally dependent on specific hormones and 2, are stimulated or caused to regress by manipulation of the endocrine environment. D011379 Prognosis A prediction of the probable outcome of a disease based on a individual's condition and the usual course of the disease as seen in similar situations. Prognostic Factor,Prognostic Factors,Factor, Prognostic,Factors, Prognostic,Prognoses
D011863 Radioimmunoassay Classic quantitative assay for detection of antigen-antibody reactions using a radioactively labeled substance (radioligand) either directly or indirectly to measure the binding of the unlabeled substance to a specific antibody or other receptor system. Non-immunogenic substances (e.g., haptens) can be measured if coupled to larger carrier proteins (e.g., bovine gamma-globulin or human serum albumin) capable of inducing antibody formation. Radioimmunoassays

D002272 Carcinoembryonic Antigen A glycoprotein that is secreted into the luminal surface of the epithelia in the gastrointestinal tract. It is found in the feces and pancreaticobiliary secretions and is used to monitor the response to colon cancer treatment. D005348 Fibrocystic Breast Disease A common and benign breast disease characterized by varying degree of fibrocystic changes in the breast tissue. There are three major patterns of morphological changes, including FIBROSIS, formation of CYSTS, and proliferation of glandular tissue (adenosis). The fibrocystic breast has a dense irregular, lumpy, bumpy consistency.
