Changes in immune response to sheep red blood cells during growth of transplantable rat tumor. 1982

E Gerö-Ferencz, and G A Medgyesi

The number of direct plaque-forming cells and the titer of circulating hemolytic antibodies were studied at different times after transplantation of Guérin tumor in rats. A stimulating effect was observed 5 days after tumor transplantation. In the terminal stage of tumor development the immune responsiveness was reduced. When irradiated, nongrowing tumor tissue was transplanted, an increased immune response could be observed shortly after transplantation while a loss in immune response did not develop up to the 21st day after transplantation.

D006082 Graft Enhancement, Immunologic The induction of prolonged survival and growth of allografts of either tumors or normal tissues which would ordinarily be rejected. It may be induced passively by introducing graft-specific antibodies from previously immunized donors, which bind to the graft's surface antigens, masking them from recognition by T-cells; or actively by prior immunization of the recipient with graft antigens which evoke specific antibodies and form antigen-antibody complexes which bind to the antigen receptor sites of the T-cells and block their cytotoxic activity. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. Animal,Metazoa,Animalia
D000912 Antibodies, Neoplasm Immunoglobulins induced by antigens specific for tumors other than the normally occurring HISTOCOMPATIBILITY ANTIGENS. Neoplasm Antibodies,Tumor Antibodies,Antibodies, Tumor
D000921 Antibody-Producing Cells Cells of the lymphoid series that can react with antigen to produce specific cell products called antibodies. Various cell subpopulations, often B-lymphocytes, can be defined, based on the different classes of immunoglobulins that they synthesize.
