Subject of this paper is the attempt to five a survey of the concept of "drive". Some approaches to a better understanding of drive are described: a general psychological way, a phenomenological-psychopathological way, a psychoanalytical way and a neurophysiological-neuropsychological way. The problem is discussed to seize the phenomenon of drive as a whole in contrast to the postulated numerous drives. Some clinical aspects are outlined. Finally, the suggestion is discussed to leave global characteristics as "drive" and better try--also in a clinical point of view--an exact recording in men of the drives as single phenomenons.
