[Cytophotometric study of the DNA content of the liver of rats poisoned with N-nitrosomorpholine]. 1982

R Callaghan, and J Cabanes, and A Pellin, and A Llombart-Bosch

The evolution of ploidy of liver cells during malignant transformation by N-nitrosomorpholine was studied cytophotometrically. It was observed an increased ploidy that was due to the toxic action of the product and lasted six weeks, and a gradual return to normal values after the administration of the drug was discontinued.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008099 Liver A large lobed glandular organ in the abdomen of vertebrates that is responsible for detoxification, metabolism, synthesis and storage of various substances. Livers
D008297 Male Males
D009602 Nitrosamines A class of compounds that contain a -NH2 and a -NO radical. Many members of this group have carcinogenic and mutagenic properties. Nitrosamine
D011003 Ploidies The degree of replication of the chromosome set in the karyotype. Ploidy
D011919 Rats, Inbred Strains Genetically identical individuals developed from brother and sister matings which have been carried out for twenty or more generations or by parent x offspring matings carried out with certain restrictions. D004247 DNA A deoxyribonucleotide polymer that is the primary genetic material of all cells. Eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms normally contain DNA in a double-stranded state, yet several important biological processes transiently involve single-stranded regions. DNA, which consists of a polysugar-phosphate backbone possessing projections of purines (adenine and guanine) and pyrimidines (thymine and cytosine), forms a double helix that is held together by hydrogen bonds between these purines and pyrimidines (adenine to thymine and guanine to cytosine). D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
