This report attempts to clearly define the polymorphic nature of sequelae from burns of the lips by introducing a simple classification based on the direct or indirect, and minor, moderate, or major nature of the affection. Understanding of the processes involved in scar formation is essential for developing a rational plan for surgical repair. However, the ideal situation would be to prevent scar formation by fixation-compression, the use of an orifice shaper, or by excision-grafting of facial burns associated with these procedures.
