Caries prevention with the aid of administration of fluoride in a great variety of forms has been extensively studied in the past decades. Whilst the scientific and technical problems around these preventive measures can be considered to be solved, there remains the problem of implementation not only on a community but also on an individual level. Therefore behavioural rather than technical aspects of fluoride administration deserve increased attention. Success of individual as well as community fluoridation schemes will depend on a positive attitude, acceptance, activity, communicativeness, responsibility and perseverance of all members of the dental profession.
