The cascade systems in posttraumatic pulmonary insufficiency. 1980

B Risberg, and M Heideman

The cascade systems - the coagulation, fibrinolytic, kallikrein-kinin and complement systems - are all activated after trauma. These systems are involved in the post-traumatic pulmonary reaction. The complexity with which all the systems are intimately related is stressed. The specific role of the different systems in the development of post-traumatic pulmonary insufficiency remains to be evaluated.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007610 Kallikreins Proteolytic enzymes from the serine endopeptidase family found in normal blood and urine. Specifically, Kallikreins are potent vasodilators and hypotensives and increase vascular permeability and affect smooth muscle. They act as infertility agents in men. Three forms are recognized, PLASMA KALLIKREIN (EC 3.4.21.34), TISSUE KALLIKREIN (EC 3.4.21.35), and PROSTATE-SPECIFIC ANTIGEN (EC 3.4.21.77).
