[Morphofunctional characteristics of the adrenal cortex of mice following thymarin administration]. 1981

A R Katsers

A study was made of the effect of the Soviet original drug thymarin on the adrenal cortex of male CBA mice. The drug was obtained from the cattle thymus and is known to induce competence of the T lymphocyte system of immunity. Histoenzymological studies disclosed a statistically significant reduction in the activity of NAD. H- and NADP X X H-diaphorases, glucoso-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and alkaline phosphatases in adrenocortical cells. Linear dimensions and cell volumes in the glomerular, fascicular and reticular zones were also found to be reduced. Thymarin is suggested to be one of the factors that regulate the structure and function of the adrenal cortex. It is believed that thymarin may exert a repressive effect on the adrenal cortex.

D008808 Mice, Inbred CBA An inbred strain of mouse that is widely used in BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH. Mice, CBA,Mouse, CBA,Mouse, Inbred CBA,CBA Mice,CBA Mice, Inbred,CBA Mouse,CBA Mouse, Inbred,Inbred CBA Mice,Inbred CBA Mouse
D009247 NADH, NADPH Oxidoreductases A group of oxidoreductases that act on NADH or NADPH. In general, enzymes using NADH or NADPH to reduce a substrate are classified according to the reverse reaction, in which NAD+ or NADP+ is formally regarded as an acceptor. This subclass includes only those enzymes in which some other redox carrier is the acceptor. (Enzyme Nomenclature, 1992, p100) EC 1.6. D005954 Glucosephosphate Dehydrogenase Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase,Dehydrogenase, Glucose-6-Phosphate,Dehydrogenase, Glucosephosphate,Glucose 6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase
D000135 Acid Phosphatase An enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of an orthophosphoric monoester and water to an alcohol and orthophosphate. EC 3.1.3.2. Acid beta-Glycerophosphatase,Acid beta Glycerophosphatase
D000302 Adrenal Cortex The outer layer of the adrenal gland. It is derived from MESODERM and comprised of three zones (outer ZONA GLOMERULOSA, middle ZONA FASCICULATA, and inner ZONA RETICULARIS) with each producing various steroids preferentially, such as ALDOSTERONE; HYDROCORTISONE; DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE; and ANDROSTENEDIONE. Adrenal cortex function is regulated by pituitary ADRENOCORTICOTROPIN. Cortex, Adrenal
D000469 Alkaline Phosphatase An enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of an orthophosphoric monoester and water to an alcohol and orthophosphate. EC 3.1.3.1.
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D013951 Thymus Hormones Humoral factors secreted by the thymus gland. They participate in the development of the lymphoid system and the maturation of the cellular immune response. Thymic Hormones,Hormones, Thymic,Hormones, Thymus
