MHC antigens on mouse trophoblast cells: paucity of Ia antigens despite the presence of H-2K and D. 1981

S Chatterjee-Hasrouni, and P K Lala

The presence of Ia antigens was examined on the surface of trophoblast cells isolated from mouse placentae resulting from mating C57BL/6 female and CBA male mice. A sensitive immunolabeling method was employed in which cells were treated with polyspecific anti-Ia (A.TH anti-A.TL) or monoclonal anti-Ia.17 antibody followed by 125I-labeled protein A and examined with the aid of quantitative radioautography. No appreciable levels of Ia antigens were detectable between days 12 and 17 of pregnancy, although significant amounts of H-2D were always found on the trophoblast cells from the same placentae, and spleen cells as well as thymocytes from control animals always showed the expected degree of labeling for Ia antigens.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007106 Immune Sera Serum that contains antibodies. It is obtained from an animal that has been immunized either by ANTIGEN injection or infection with microorganisms containing the antigen. Antisera,Immune Serums,Sera, Immune,Serums, Immune

D008808 Mice, Inbred CBA An inbred strain of mouse that is widely used in BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH. Mice, CBA,Mouse, CBA,Mouse, Inbred CBA,CBA Mice,CBA Mice, Inbred,CBA Mouse,CBA Mouse, Inbred,Inbred CBA Mice,Inbred CBA Mouse
D008810 Mice, Inbred C57BL One of the first INBRED MOUSE STRAINS to be sequenced. This strain is commonly used as genetic background for transgenic mouse models. Refractory to many tumors, this strain is also preferred model for studying role of genetic variations in development of diseases. D011247 Pregnancy The status during which female mammals carry their developing young (EMBRYOS or FETUSES) in utero before birth, beginning from FERTILIZATION to BIRTH. Gestation,Pregnancies
D011485 Protein Binding The process in which substances, either endogenous or exogenous, bind to proteins, peptides, enzymes, protein precursors, or allied compounds. Specific protein-binding measures are often used as assays in diagnostic assessments. Plasma Protein Binding Capacity,Binding, Protein
D005260 Female Females
D006183 H-2 Antigens The major group of transplantation antigens in the mouse. H2 Antigens,Antigens, H-2,Antigens, H2,H 2 Antigens
D006649 Histocompatibility Antigens A group of antigens that includes both the major and minor histocompatibility antigens. The former are genetically determined by the major histocompatibility complex. They determine tissue type for transplantation and cause allograft rejections. The latter are systems of allelic alloantigens that can cause weak transplant rejection. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
