Cytochemical marking of T lymphocytes in human cerebrospinal fluid. 1980

M Oehmichen, and H Wiethölter, and M Gencic

Demonstration of nonspecific acid alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase activity is a simple and practical method for classifying mononuclear cells in the cerebrospinal fluid. In addition to mononuclear phagocytes, T lymphocytes may also be characterized.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009283 Naphthol AS D Esterase Hydrolytic enzyme activity used as a histocytochemical test for the presence of esterases in tissue. Substrate used is 3-hydroxy-4'-nitro-2-naphthanilide chloroacetate (naphthol AS-D). D002265 Carboxylic Ester Hydrolases Enzymes which catalyze the hydrolysis of carboxylic acid esters with the formation of an alcohol and a carboxylic acid anion. Carboxylesterases,Ester Hydrolases, Carboxylic,Hydrolases, Carboxylic Ester
D002555 Cerebrospinal Fluid A watery fluid that is continuously produced in the CHOROID PLEXUS and circulates around the surface of the BRAIN; SPINAL CORD; and in the CEREBRAL VENTRICLES. D012397 Rosette Formation The in vitro formation of clusters consisting of a cell (usually a lymphocyte) surrounded by antigenic cells or antigen-bearing particles (usually erythrocytes, which may or may not be coated with antibody or antibody and complement). The rosette-forming cell may be an antibody-forming cell, a memory cell, a T-cell, a cell bearing surface cytophilic antibodies, or a monocyte possessing Fc receptors. Rosette formation can be used to identify specific populations of these cells. Immunocytoadherence,Formation, Rosette,Formations, Rosette,Immunocytoadherences,Rosette Formations
D013601 T-Lymphocytes Lymphocytes responsible for cell-mediated immunity. Two types have been identified - cytotoxic (T-LYMPHOCYTES, CYTOTOXIC) and helper T-lymphocytes (T-LYMPHOCYTES, HELPER-INDUCER). They are formed when lymphocytes circulate through the THYMUS GLAND and differentiate to thymocytes. When exposed to an antigen, they divide rapidly and produce large numbers of new T cells sensitized to that antigen.
