T-lymphocyte subpopulations in patients with chronic dermatophytosis. 1981

B Petrini, and T Kaaman

T lymphocytes with Fc receptors for IgM (Tm cells) or IgG (Tg cells), known under certain conditions to exert help or suppression, and T-helper and T-suppressor cells, defined by fluorescein-isothiocyanate-conjugated monoclonal antibodies, were determined in 7 patients with chronic dermatophytosis. There appeared to be a relation between severity of the disease and decreased proportion of Tm cells with concomitant increase of Tg cells. However, only in 1 severe case there was also a shift of T-helper and T-suppressor cells as defined by monoclonal antibodies.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D002908 Chronic Disease Diseases which have one or more of the following characteristics: they are permanent, leave residual disability, are caused by nonreversible pathological alteration, require special training of the patient for rehabilitation, or may be expected to require a long period of supervision, observation, or care (Dictionary of Health Services Management, 2d ed). For epidemiological studies chronic disease often includes HEART DISEASES; STROKE; CANCER; and diabetes (DIABETES MELLITUS, TYPE 2). D000906 Antibodies Immunoglobulin molecules having a specific amino acid sequence by virtue of which they interact only with the ANTIGEN (or a very similar shape) that induced their synthesis in cells of the lymphoid series (especially PLASMA CELLS).
D013601 T-Lymphocytes Lymphocytes responsible for cell-mediated immunity. Two types have been identified - cytotoxic (T-LYMPHOCYTES, CYTOTOXIC) and helper T-lymphocytes (T-LYMPHOCYTES, HELPER-INDUCER). They are formed when lymphocytes circulate through the THYMUS GLAND and differentiate to thymocytes. When exposed to an antigen, they divide rapidly and produce large numbers of new T cells sensitized to that antigen. D014248 Trichophytin Antigens from the genus TRICHOPHYTON. Trichophytin has been used in studies of immunological responses to these dermatophytes.
