Mouse red blood cell rosettes: human B and some T lymphocytes express receptors for mouse erythrocytes in the presence of Ficoll. 1982

O Eremin, and R M Binns

Inclusion of 14% Ficoll in the assay of rosette formation of human lymphocytes with mouse red blood cells (RBC) markedly enhances the cellular interaction. Both the strength of the rosettes (number of attached RBC) and the number of reacting lymphocytes are increased significantly, irrespective of the lymphocyte source--blood, lymph node and tonsil. In the presence of Ficoll, most of the sIg-bearing B lymphocytes [expressing receptors for Fc(IgG) and/or C3] and a significant number of the sheep RBC-rosetting T lymphocytes (particularly the nylon wool non-adherent subset from the tonsil), express receptors for the mouse erythrocyte.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008221 Lymphoid Tissue Specialized tissues that are components of the lymphatic system. They provide fixed locations within the body where a variety of LYMPHOCYTES can form, mature and multiply. The lymphoid tissues are connected by a network of LYMPHATIC VESSELS. Lymphatic Tissue,Lymphatic Tissues,Lymphoid Tissues,Tissue, Lymphatic,Tissue, Lymphoid,Tissues, Lymphatic,Tissues, Lymphoid
D008297 Male Males
D008815 Mice, Inbred Strains Genetically identical individuals developed from brother and sister matings which have been carried out for twenty or more generations, or by parent x offspring matings carried out with certain restrictions. All animals within an inbred strain trace back to a common ancestor in the twentieth generation. D011134 Polysaccharides Long chain polymeric CARBOHYDRATES composed of MONOSACCHARIDES linked by glycosidic bonds. Glycan,Glycans,Polysaccharide
D011971 Receptors, Immunologic Cell surface molecules on cells of the immune system that specifically bind surface molecules or messenger molecules and trigger changes in the behavior of cells. Although these receptors were first identified in the immune system, many have important functions elsewhere. D004912 Erythrocytes Red blood cells. Mature erythrocytes are non-nucleated, biconcave disks containing HEMOGLOBIN whose function is to transport OXYGEN. D000367 Age Factors Age as a constituent element or influence contributing to the production of a result. It may be applicable to the cause or the effect of a circumstance. It is used with human or animal concepts but should be differentiated from AGING, a physiological process, and TIME FACTORS which refers only to the passage of time.
