Colloid osmotic pressure. 1980

D R Bevan

Technical advances have made the bedside measurement of colloid osmotic pressure (COP) a rapid and reproducible test. The principles of measurement are described and the place of COP determinations in the recognition, treatment and prophylaxis of oedematous states is discussed.

D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D009997 Osmotic Pressure The pressure required to prevent the passage of solvent through a semipermeable membrane that separates a pure solvent from a solution of the solvent and solute or that separates different concentrations of a solution. It is proportional to the osmolality of the solution. D011184 Postoperative Period The period following a surgical operation. Period, Postoperative,Periods, Postoperative,Postoperative Periods
D011650 Pulmonary Alveoli Small polyhedral outpouchings along the walls of the alveolar sacs, alveolar ducts and terminal bronchioles through the walls of which gas exchange between alveolar air and pulmonary capillary blood takes place. Alveoli, Pulmonary,Alveolus, Pulmonary,Pulmonary Alveolus
D011654 Pulmonary Edema Excessive accumulation of extravascular fluid in the lung, an indication of a serious underlying disease or disorder. Pulmonary edema prevents efficient PULMONARY GAS EXCHANGE in the PULMONARY ALVEOLI, and can be life-threatening. D003102 Colloids Two-phase systems in which one is uniformly dispersed in another as particles small enough so they cannot be filtered or will not settle out. The dispersing or continuous phase or medium envelops the particles of the discontinuous phase. All three states of matter can form colloids among each other. Hydrocolloids,Colloid,Hydrocolloid
