[Value of the Cialit skin homograft in visceral surgery]. 1980

S Schneider

The conservation of skin in Cialit was suggested by SANCHIS-OLMOS in 1954. The process was introduced into Switzerland at the Balgrist Hospital in 1957; it has found many applications in traumatological and orthopaedic surgery. In visceral surgery, on the other hand, the possibilities of this material are often unknow, trough in fact it offers many advantages: great mechanical strength, good tolerance even in an infected environment, perfect sterility, simplicity of manipulation and insignificant cost. We give an account of our ten years' experience, bearing on the following indications: treatment of eventration, plastic surgery of the diaphragm, of the chest wall and of the pericardium, rectopexy and treatment of relapsed hernia.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D010496 Pericardium A conical fibro-serous sac surrounding the HEART and the roots of the great vessels (AORTA; VENAE CAVAE; PULMONARY ARTERY). Pericardium consists of two sacs: the outer fibrous pericardium and the inner serous pericardium. The latter consists of an outer parietal layer facing the fibrous pericardium, and an inner visceral layer (epicardium) resting next to the heart, and a pericardial cavity between these two layers. D012005 Rectal Prolapse Protrusion of the rectal mucous membrane through the anus. There are various degrees: incomplete with no displacement of the anal sphincter muscle; complete with displacement of the anal sphincter muscle; complete with no displacement of the anal sphincter muscle but with herniation of the bowel; and internal complete with rectosigmoid or upper rectum intussusception into the lower rectum. D002920 Cialit Tissue preservative.
D003965 Diaphragmatic Eventration A congenital abnormality characterized by the elevation of the DIAPHRAGM dome. It is the result of a thinned diaphragmatic muscle and injured PHRENIC NERVE, allowing the intra-abdominal viscera to push the diaphragm upward against the LUNG. D006552 Hernia, Inguinal An abdominal hernia with an external bulge in the GROIN region. It can be classified by the location of herniation. Indirect inguinal hernias occur through the internal inguinal ring. Direct inguinal hernias occur through defects in the ABDOMINAL WALL (transversalis fascia) in Hesselbach's triangle. The former type is commonly seen in children and young adults; the latter in adults.
