Cryostat sections guarantee a correct diagnosis in 98.4% of our brain biopsy cases. In skilled hands, small pieces of tissue can yield excellent sections, and in our laboratory cryostat sections are made as a rapid routine method of diagnosis with the advantage that the material then can be used for chemical, histochemical, cytophotometric or ultrastructural studies as well as for tissue culture.
