Prognostic value of serum lactic dehydrogenase level in Hodgkin's disease. 1982

R F Schilling, and B McKnight, and J J Crowley

The serum LDH level determined at time of diagnosis provides important prognostic information about patients with Hodgkin's disease. The median survival of patients with a normal value was 129 months, whereas those with elevated values had a median survival of only 39 months. The prognostic power of LDH persisted after adjustment for age, symptom class, stage, or histology. When the Cox proportional hazards regression method was used to simultaneously adjust for age, histology, symptom class, and stage, elevated enzyme levels still were correlated with short survival. UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007770 L-Lactate Dehydrogenase A tetrameric enzyme that, along with the coenzyme NAD+, catalyzes the interconversion of LACTATE and PYRUVATE. In vertebrates, genes for three different subunits (LDH-A, LDH-B and LDH-C) exist. Lactate Dehydrogenase,Dehydrogenase, L-Lactate,Dehydrogenase, Lactate,L Lactate Dehydrogenase

D011379 Prognosis A prediction of the probable outcome of a disease based on a individual's condition and the usual course of the disease as seen in similar situations. Prognostic Factor,Prognostic Factors,Factor, Prognostic,Factors, Prognostic,Prognoses
D005260 Female Females
D006689 Hodgkin Disease A malignant disease characterized by progressive enlargement of the lymph nodes, spleen, and general lymphoid tissue. In the classical variant, giant usually multinucleate Hodgkin's and REED-STERNBERG CELLS are present; in the nodular lymphocyte predominant variant, lymphocytic and histiocytic cells are seen.
