[Neuronal level of visual analysis organization in the frog tectum]. 1982

T V Aleĭnikova, and V V Khrenkova

Using coupled microelectrode studies of the frog tectum neuronal responses to diffuse light or moving visual stimulus, the excitatory-inhibitory constructions were revealed in the midbrain tectum. The size of excitatory areas of these constructions is about 100-200 mu with intevening inhibitory areas. It proved possible to find a correlation between the size of the excitatory tectal constructions appearing in different types of visual stimulation and the width of the branching areas as well as the site of terminals of the visual afferents and intratectal fibers.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009474 Neurons The basic cellular units of nervous tissue. Each neuron consists of a body, an axon, and dendrites. Their purpose is to receive, conduct, and transmit impulses in the NERVOUS SYSTEM. Nerve Cells,Cell, Nerve,Cells, Nerve,Nerve Cell,Neuron

D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
