Two cases are reported of rupture of the stomach at the site of ligature of the short vessels following post-traumatic splenectomy. This complication, which occurred one week after the operation, required emergency surgery consisting of resuturing of the gastric opening in two planes. The outcome was favourable in both patients. Though rare, this complication requires better recognition, and suggest that systematic draining of the splenic space should be performed after ablation of the spleen.
