Carpal tunnel syndrome due to compression by an anomalous median artery. 1982

A black male laborer was admitted with a classic carpal tunnel syndrome. He was examined, and an electromyelogram revealed compression of the median nerve. This was released surgically. The nerve was found to be compressed within the tunnel by an anomalous median artery. This would appear to be the first recorded case of a carpal tunnel syndrome caused by an unthrombosed anomalous persistent large median artery.
