Rapid determination of the luteinizing hormone for optimal timing of oocyte recovery. 1982

K W Haake, and G Zimmermann

Accurate prediction of ovulation is absolutely necessary to recover mature oocytes for in vitro fertilization. We have modified a commercially available LH-RIA Kit for blood and urine measurement and used the HI-Gonavis Kit for monitoring the present LH level. Post-menstruation (11th-16th day) laparoscopy or laparotomy was performed to inspect the follicle state and the oocyte quality, respectively. The precise time for harvesting oocytes after the beginning of LH increase is not known. Varying data of other research groups are discussed and some problems are described.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007986 Luteinizing Hormone A major gonadotropin secreted by the adenohypophysis (PITUITARY GLAND, ANTERIOR). Luteinizing hormone regulates steroid production by the interstitial cells of the TESTIS and the OVARY. The preovulatory LUTEINIZING HORMONE surge in females induces OVULATION, and subsequent LUTEINIZATION of the follicle. LUTEINIZING HORMONE consists of two noncovalently linked subunits, alpha and beta. Within a species, the alpha subunit is common in the three pituitary glycoprotein hormones (TSH, LH and FSH), but the beta subunit is unique and confers its biological specificity. D010060 Ovulation The discharge of an OVUM from a rupturing follicle in the OVARY. Ovulations
D011863 Radioimmunoassay Classic quantitative assay for detection of antigen-antibody reactions using a radioactively labeled substance (radioligand) either directly or indirectly to measure the binding of the unlabeled substance to a specific antibody or other receptor system. Non-immunogenic substances (e.g., haptens) can be measured if coupled to larger carrier proteins (e.g., bovine gamma-globulin or human serum albumin) capable of inducing antibody formation. Radioimmunoassays
D011933 Reagent Kits, Diagnostic Commercially prepared reagent sets, with accessory devices, containing all of the major components and literature necessary to perform one or more designated diagnostic tests or procedures. They may be for laboratory or personal use. D000328 Adult A person having attained full growth or maturity. Adults are of 19 through 44 years of age. For a person between 19 and 24 years of age, YOUNG ADULT is available. Adults
