Evaluation of x-ray films of 44 early carcinomas of the stomach in a total of 163 patients from 1970--1978 confirms the high diagnostic value of x-ray examination with adequate technique. In 93% of the cases lesions caused by the carcinoma were seen. To assess the severity of the roentgenologically detected lesions it will be necessary to perform endoscopic-bioptical examination. Final diagnosis, however, must be left to histological examination of the resected stomach preparations.
