[Nociceptive reactions in man. An electrophysiological and pharmacological study (author's transl)]. 1982

J C Willer

The demonstration of a close relationship between the threshold of nociceptive flexion reflexes and that of the painful sensation resulting from stimulation of the sural nerve or of the corresponding skin territory has made it possible to devise a method for objective measurement of pain in man. The method can be of interest to locate with accuracy the site of action of certain drugs and to determine the intensity of their analgesic effect. The results obtained with non-narcotic analgesics are presented.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009619 Nociceptors Peripheral AFFERENT NEURONS which are sensitive to injuries or pain, usually caused by extreme thermal exposures, mechanical forces, or other noxious stimuli. Their cell bodies reside in the DORSAL ROOT GANGLIA. Their peripheral terminals (NERVE ENDINGS) innervate target tissues and transduce noxious stimuli via axons to the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. D012018 Reflex An involuntary movement or exercise of function in a part, excited in response to a stimulus applied to the periphery and transmitted to the brain or spinal cord.
D004594 Electrophysiology The study of the generation and behavior of electrical charges in living organisms particularly the nervous system and the effects of electricity on living organisms.
