[Morphological findings in experimentally induced gliomas in cats]. 1982

Gliomas were produced in 60 cats by stereotactic xenotransplantation of a rat glioma clone RG2. The animals were divided into two groups. One group was killed without any therapy 21 days after cell transplantation. The cats of the second group received 10 mg dexamethasone depot between the 14th and 19th day after cell transplantation. In all cases the animals were killed after one week. In the untreated animals there was marked peritumoral oedema and a high-grade infiltration of round cells to be found in the white matter of the whole left hemisphere. In the dexamethasone-treated cats peritumoral oedema and round-cell infiltration were definitely less pronounced than in the first group. The immunosuppressive effect of dexamethasone is discussed.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009368 Neoplasm Transplantation Experimental transplantation of neoplasms in laboratory animals for research purposes. Transplantation, Neoplasm,Neoplasm Transplantations,Transplantations, Neoplasm
D001932 Brain Neoplasms Neoplasms of the intracranial components of the central nervous system, including the cerebral hemispheres, basal ganglia, hypothalamus, thalamus, brain stem, and cerebellum. Brain neoplasms are subdivided into primary (originating from brain tissue) and secondary (i.e., metastatic) forms. Primary neoplasms are subdivided into benign and malignant forms. In general, brain tumors may also be classified by age of onset, histologic type, or presenting location in the brain. D002415 Cats The domestic cat, Felis catus, of the carnivore family FELIDAE, comprising over 30 different breeds. The domestic cat is descended primarily from the wild cat of Africa and extreme southwestern Asia. Though probably present in towns in Palestine as long ago as 7000 years, actual domestication occurred in Egypt about 4000 years ago. D002999 Clone Cells A group of genetically identical cells all descended from a single common ancestral cell by mitosis in eukaryotes or by binary fission in prokaryotes. Clone cells also include populations of recombinant DNA molecules all carrying the same inserted sequence. D005910 Glioma Benign and malignant central nervous system neoplasms derived from glial cells (i.e., astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and ependymocytes). Astrocytes may give rise to astrocytomas (ASTROCYTOMA) or glioblastoma multiforme (see GLIOBLASTOMA). Oligodendrocytes give rise to oligodendrogliomas (OLIGODENDROGLIOMA) and ependymocytes may undergo transformation to become EPENDYMOMA; CHOROID PLEXUS NEOPLASMS; or colloid cysts of the third ventricle. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
