[Gastrin level in the blood serum fasting and after food intake in peptic ulcer and chronic gastritis with secretory failure]. 1982

L N Valenkevich, and A Sh Zaĭchik

Radioimmunoassay was used to determine the blood gastrin content in 45 patients and 14 healthy individuals. Examination was performed on an empty stomach and 20 and 40 minutes after trial breakfast. It was established that after the trial breakfast (35 g protein, 50 g fat, and 70 g carbohydrate) the greatest increment in the gastrin content, as compared to normal, was recorded in increased acid-forming gastric function (peptic ulcer with ulcer site in the duodenum). In patients with decreased acid production (peptic ulcer with ulcer site in the stomach, chronic gastritis with secretory failure), the gastrin content after the trial breakfast was lower than in healthy individuals and in duodenal ulcer patients.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D010437 Peptic Ulcer Ulcer that occurs in the regions of the GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT which come into contact with GASTRIC JUICE containing PEPSIN and GASTRIC ACID. It occurs when there are defects in the MUCOSA barrier. The common forms of peptic ulcers are associated with HELICOBACTER PYLORI and the consumption of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS). D002908 Chronic Disease Diseases which have one or more of the following characteristics: they are permanent, leave residual disability, are caused by nonreversible pathological alteration, require special training of the patient for rehabilitation, or may be expected to require a long period of supervision, observation, or care (Dictionary of Health Services Management, 2d ed). For epidemiological studies chronic disease often includes HEART DISEASES; STROKE; CANCER; and diabetes (DIABETES MELLITUS, TYPE 2).
